All about Jaw&Bite
Jaw&Bite Consultation
- Share - Let us know what is troubling you. Are you having trouble chewing your favourite foods? Perhaps you are getting sore jaw or headaches in the mornings?
- Assess - We will complete a Jaw&Bite assessment involving checking your muscles that move your jaw, your jaw joint and its relation to your bite as well as how you chew.
- Discuss - By being able to communicate the findings we can talk through your options to see which route you want to take.
What is it?
- Jaw&Bite is a broad term which covers several areas:
- Jaw joint
- Jaw muscles
- Bite
- These areas are often overlooked as symptoms may not present until later in life. It is worth assessing for signs of deterioration early so preventative measure can be considered.
Fortunately during our routine dental examination we include a screening for Jaw&Bite health. If a separate Jaw&Bite consultation is required we will discuss this with you.
Tooth wear
- There are two type of tooth wear, normal and disease-related. It takes an in depth assessment to determine the difference and the level of risk involved.
There are a few causes of tooth wear:
- Acid erosion e.g. foods, drinks, stomach acid
- Tooth-on-tooth contact e.g. high stress chewing
- Non-tooth physical contact e.g. aggressive toothbrushing
- All cases differ so it is best to book in for a Jaw&Bite consultation to find out more and discuss preventative treatments.
Jaw pain
- There are
- Implant consultation
- Cone-beam CT scan and analysis
- Implant surgery
- Implant impression and crown
- *This does not include (not exhaustive list): routine dental examinations, other dental treatments, bone grafting, hygiene visits
Timeframe
- Dental implant treatment are not an immediate solution and can take 6-9 months.
- After a tooth is extracted we often wait 2-3 months for the bone to heal before placing an implant
- Occasionally we can extract and place the dental implant on the same sitting, this is case dependent.
- 3 months after the implant placement we aim to start the process in making the implant crown which usually takes two further appointments.
- After the implant crown is placed we require you to see the hygienist to provide you with implant supportive therapy and ongoing care.
Stories
- Sometimes it is best to hear from the people who we have already treated to get an idea if implant treatment is for you.
- "Worth every penny" - Robert
- "I've forgotten its there, it feels that natural" - Sarah
- "No problems eating now" - Alistair
